HUNTS CORNER LAKE

STATEMENT
As a direct result of the flooding last summer we regret that we now have to close down Hunts Corner Lake for fishing as we did Oxlease Lake. Although we believe that very few fish were lost from Hunts at the time of the high water, a great number have died since. This is a result of either a pollutant or an infection entering the lake along with the flood water. Hunts Lake is, along with Oxlease, the last of these two waters in line on the complex and unfortunately received, compared with all our other lakes, more than their share of the flood water. None of the other waters have suffered major fish deaths other than the very low, average fatalities that would be expected in a normal year. On these other waters stocking has taking place and is continuing which will more than replace any fish lost during the high water levels.
Hunts being the last lake in line after Oxlease was slower to respond to the flood conditions than its neighbour and it wasn’t until late October and November last year that we started to find dead fish on the water and unfortunately a majority of the larger known carp were amongst these. Tests on the surviving fish and a survey were carried out early this year and although infections or pollutants were found to be no longer present, the poor condition of the fish sampled led those carrying out the tests to believe that very few carp were left alive in the water. Because of these findings it was decided to close the water to rest those carp that were left and to give them a chance to recover.
The water will not be open again until early 2009 and it is planned to restock with carp by the end of this year providing we have the all clear on the water to do so. It could be several years before the water becomes anywhere near the water it was prior to the floods and it is unlikely that we will ever run it as a syndicate again. For this reason and to be fair on our members we are offering a generous compensation package.

LINEAR ANNOUNCE THE REOPENING OF HARDWICK AND BRASNOSE LAKES.
Richworth Linear Fisheries are pleased to announce that Brasenose-1, Brasenose-2 and Hardwick/Smiths Lakes are to re-open.
The lakes, which were closed in June to treat and rest the stock after being affected by a bacterial infection a direct result of last years summer floods and poor spring whether, will be open again for day ticket angling on Monday August 18th 2008.
